Who I Am

Making Beautiful Homes Accessible

I'm Eleanor Hartley, and I've spent the last 14 years helping British homeowners create warm, inviting spaces without spending a fortune. What started as a passion project during my Interior Design studies at the University of Leeds became something much bigger — a genuine belief that beautiful homes aren't exclusive to people with unlimited budgets.

My background includes five years as a buying consultant for a major UK homeware retailer, where I learned the inside secrets of the industry. But honestly, that's not where my heart was. I wanted to work with real people, in real homes, solving real problems. So I started documenting how families across Yorkshire and the Midlands could find incredible pieces at car boot sales, transform their spaces seasonally, and tackle DIY projects that actually made a difference. That work eventually led me to voiceauthorized.org Ltd, where I now lead our editorial strategy for budget-friendly home styling content.

The thing is, I don't believe in complicated design rules or expensive solutions. What I do believe in is understanding your space, knowing where to hunt for treasures, and having the confidence to make your home genuinely yours.

My Specialisations

Where My Knowledge Matters Most

Hygge-Inspired British Decor

The Danish concept of hygge translates perfectly to British homes. I specialise in creating that sense of cosy contentment through lighting, textiles, colour choices, and layered comfort. It's not about adding clutter — it's about creating spaces where people actually want to spend time.

Car Boot Sale Sourcing

I've hunted through hundreds of car boot sales across the UK. I know what to look for, how to negotiate, and how to spot quality pieces hidden among the chaos. From vintage furniture to decorative finds, I'll teach you how to build a unique home from other people's treasures.

Seasonal Styling Transitions

Your home should shift with the seasons. I work with colour, textiles, and decorative elements to help spaces feel fresh and intentional as the year changes. Summer brightness, autumn warmth, winter comfort, spring renewal — it's all possible without major spending.

DIY Comfort Projects

Not everything needs a professional. I specialise in practical DIY projects that don't require advanced skills — custom throw pillows, comfort cushion covers, wall styling, and simple furnishing tweaks that transform how a room feels and functions.

My Background

14 Years Building Expertise

From formal training to real-world application, here's how I got here

01

Interior Design Degree — University of Leeds

2006–2009

Started with formal training in design principles, colour theory, spatial planning, and material science. But I quickly realised I was more interested in solving real problems for real people than pursuing gallery-focused design work.

02

Buying Consultant — Major UK Homeware Retailer

2009–2014

Five years understanding supply chains, cost structures, and trend forecasting. I learned what makes a good product, why things cost what they do, and how the retail industry actually works. This background still informs my approach to finding value.

03

Independent Content Creator & Stylist

2012–2020

Launched a popular blog documenting car boot sales, home transformations, and budget styling across Yorkshire and the Midlands. Built a genuine community of people interested in affordable, authentic interior solutions. This work attracted attention from major home décor publications.

04

Senior Home Styling Editor — voiceauthorized.org Ltd

2020–Present

Now leading editorial strategy for budget-friendly home styling content. Working with a team to produce educational resources on hygge, seasonal styling, DIY projects, and sourcing vintage pieces. This is where all my experience comes together — teaching others what I've learned.

What I Cover

The Topics I'm Most Passionate About

Cosy Home UK

British homes have their own character. I focus on creating spaces that feel genuinely cosy — not Instagram-perfect, but actually comfortable. That means understanding how light moves through a room, choosing fabrics that invite you to sit down, and building a space that reflects how you actually live rather than some aspirational version.

Whether it's a small flat in Manchester or a cottage in the Cotswolds, the principles are the same. You're working with what you have, adding warmth thoughtfully, and creating moments of genuine comfort in everyday spaces.

Practical DIY & Seasonal Styling

I don't cover complicated renovations or professional-level projects. What I do cover is the stuff you can actually do yourself — making throw pillow covers, arranging seasonal decorations, creating focal points without major spending, and understanding how small changes can shift how a whole room feels.

Seasonal transitions are huge in my work. Autumn requires warmth and texture. Winter needs deep colours and layered comfort. Spring brings brightness and fresh approaches. Summer keeps things light. I help people make these shifts intentionally, using what they already have and finding affordable additions that make sense.
